One evening each July an open-air literary festival is held in Toronto's High Park. It is a midway of diverse voices joined in celebration of poetry and story-telling. Audiences exceeding 1200 people gather under the oak trees to hear both well-known and emerging writers from across the country, such as Lynn Crosbie, Claire Harris, Steven Heighton, Nicole Brossard, Nino Ricci, Al Purdy, Susan Musgrave, Leon Rooke, Christopher Dewdney, Barbara Gowdy, Bill Bissett...This book collects the work (much of it new and previously unpublished) from the 48 writers who have performed at Scream in High Park in its first three years. This is an important anthology which celebrates one of Canada's most exciting literary events and the diversity and vitality of Canada's writing community.
