Ella Minnow Pea

Told through a series of letters, this is set on the fictional island of Nollop, home to the great Nevin Nollop, inventor of the pangram 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog'. The islanders erect a statue to their hero, but one day the letter 'z' falls from the inscription. To the despair of the residents, the council interprets the falling tile as Nollop's message from beyond the grave and the islanders are forbidden to write or even speak it. Then another letter falls, and another and another.. This is the correspondence of Ella Minnow Pea and her family as they race to find the only thing that can save them all from being silenced: another pangram.

Ella Minnow Pea

An amazingly inventive book about the fictional idylic island of Nollop who suffer a spiral of catastrophic events when the letter 'z' falls from their much loved monument. They hold council meetings and decide to ban any words that hold that letter, one by one a different letter falls and anyone found speaking them are held under lingusitc siege. Brilliant
