Hitchens is a very powerful writer and this book is zips with bullets from his artillery-filled pen. The book is part of a seeming re-emergence of the polemic as a means of expression (eg. recent works about religion from Martin Amis, Sam Harris and A C Grayling). It’s really refreshing to read a non-PC rant sometimes! But it’s not just one long shout - the book is often quietly devastating in the manner and detail of the arguments against religions based on the purported ‘revelation’ to humankind by the creator of the entire universe (in the form of various books, all acknowledged to have been written out by men ...).
A stimulating, brave and important book. Hitchens’ ruthless and unflinching approach is one to be admired and welcomed - it often makes for an eye-popping and hilarious read.
