Can Barnes squash the history of the world into just over 10 chapters? Well he can but misses out a bit. Each chapter takes a moment in history from Noah's Ark through to the present day. The stories explore the minute and the massive with the wit and precision that only a great writer can. This book makes you think about history and how it is recorded. There is plenty of factual accuracy and fantastical invention intertwined in subtle ways so you are left guessing what to take away from the book.
