Bookseller review
Capote's aim for this novel was to create a new genre of fiction; fictionalising a sequence of true events. The story follows two murderers accused of killing an entire family for what seems to be no motive. The novel caused uproar when the murderers were writtin about in a somewhat sympathetic light, the reason being Capote formed a friendship with one in particular. The last novel Capote ever penned, this is truly a masterpiece and a must read.

This has to be one of the most intriguing books I have ever had the pleasure to read.
Set in a Kansas town, a perfect family, wealthy and popular are brutally slain in their own idyllic home, with no apparent motive.
Part investigative journalism, part biographical accounts of almost every character in the book’s setting, the way Capote is able to draw a reader into a community whilst trying to understand the motives and psychological profiles of two cold blooded murderers, is a truly phenomenal piece of 20th Century American literature.
At times it does veer towards the stereotypical, what with ranch farmers chewing the fat in a roadside diner, complete with trucker caps and checked shirts, but then again this could be a very observant snapshot of a time, place and mood.
Often heralded as the birth of the true crime novel, In Cold Blood is a must have edition to any bookshelf.
