Borges was a master of the short story. He can fit more ideas into two pages than most writers can fit into two hundred and fifty. Read one of these short stories in the morning and you'll still be mulling it over when you go to bed. Each time you read a story you'll see more. Borges is the personification of the writers mantra 'make every word work for you', his economy of language is astounding. Stunning, mesmerising and before his time - I'm almost lost for words.

Borges is a masterful writer and this selection of short stories contains some of his best work. There is an other-worldly feel to these stories, sometimes bizarre and hallucinatory, sometimes in the sense that there is an underlying mathematical formula for language that only Borges can express.
