Bookseller review
One of the most notable literary fiction picks of 2008. Quite how Joseph O'Neill's take on a stranger's life in post-9/11 New York did not make the Booker shortlist is quite beyond me. Now on the Richard and Judy list and picking up the recognition it deserves.

Bookseller review
An exquisitely written novel giving an insight into the mind of the average Bush administrated American. In this novel O'Neill captures the thoughts of one man's struggle with divorce and the sanctuary he finds at the cricket crease. This fine piece of literature is saturated with vocabulary we have come to expect of the industry nominated authors (At times it felt like he was trying too hard to impress with the depth of narrative)If you like cricket, you will get on far better with this book, but it really is not a necessity.

O'Neill confronts the dislocation felt as the tide of events such as 9/11 overwhelm individuals, turning the familiar into the strange.
