The origins of the Big Brother theory - George Orwell creates a fantastic read. It is impossible to put down and certainly has an impact. My favourite book of all time.

1984 is one of those extremely rare books that genuinely changes your entire outlook on life and the way you percieve society as a whole. A dire warning for all of us that take freedom for granted.

24 years on Orwell's clasic still has the power to chill. Perhaps because we see how close to the mark he really was. Reading this you feel truely sorry for humanity for how we have created for ourselves the very things we most fear, most of all the loss of freedom.

Hidden away in the Record Department of the sprawling Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith skilfully rewrites the past to suit the needs of the Party. Yet he inwardly rebels against the totalitarian world he lives in, which demands absolute obedience and controls him through the all-seeing telescreens and the watchful eye of Big Brother, symbolic head of the Party. In his longing for truth and liberty, Smith begins a secret love affair with a fellow-worker Julia, but soon discovers the true price of freedom is betrayal.

A chilling vision of things to come. Orwells honesty is inspiring and terrifying. The best book i have ever read.
