Malcolm McCarthy's latest selection of photographs showing Padstow and District at it appeared in former times draws not only on his own extensive collection but on the family photographs of others, and offers a unique glimpse of a vanished way of life. A section on Wrecks and Rescue tells the story of the Padstow lifeboat and describes some of the last century's many wrecks; The Railway illustrates the history of the now extinct line from its construction in 1899 to its closure in 1968; MAV and Merriment deals with the Obby Oss and other parades, concerts and tea treats, and the more sombre side of life is detailed in the Military chapter, which includes rare photographs of the Padstow aerodrome at Crugmeer. Full captions, often providing names for the people in the photographs will stir memories in those who knew old Padstow, and visitors will find between these pages a town they would never have guessed existed.
