Welcome to New Crobuzon!

Although this is his second book, "Perdido Street Station" was my first introduction into the lurid and macabre imagination of China Mieville. It is a tour de force of fantasy, poesy and lush visual imagery that is difficult to pigeonhole.
I found myself marvelling at the towering spires of New Crobuzon, flinching at the steamy filth of its sewers, and completely standing shoulder to shoulder with the hero Grimnebulin and his mottley band of friends as they struggled to sort out the dreaded slakemoths, stealers of dreams!
This novel is a triumph and I certainly would not mind re-reading it with even more pleasure.
