Being a massive lover of travel writing anyway, I had always promised myself I was going to read SYIT.. That and Lost Horizons. I think there is no traveller who can fail to be seduced by the alluring mysteries, culture and shangri-la surrounding the kingdom of Tibet. Unfortunately in the press for the wrong reasons these days, I wanted to read SYIT because it felt like it was time to hear something good about Tibet and although this book is truly an excellent piece of travel writing in its purest form, actually it only serves to remind you what a turbulent hand history has dealt this peace loving nation.
For any travel fiend, this is an essential read, it is a classic piece of literature and reinforces all the reasons why I not only love to travel but love to read about other people's experiences.
