A cross between a history of philosophy and the great thinkers of the past, and a fictional story of Sophie, a girl with many questions to ask about life. This book is a great way to get familiar with philosophy as a subject. After each chapter I would just sit and think about the particular philosopher I'd just read about, before moving on.
