Bookseller review
To say this book has changed my life wouldn't be an exageration. Before I bought it I had tried and failed to teach myself to knit. Now after reading it - I can knit! Debbie Stoller is brilliant - she explains the history of knitting in an interesting and amusing fashion before going on to show the basics of knitting in an easy to follow style. The book then advances to more complex techniques using straightforward explanations. The patterns in this book are up to date and easy to follow, ranging from the mosr basic of scarves for beginners, to jumpers and even a Wonder Woman bikini! Finally the book gives details on how to set up your own "Stich ' Bitch" group, which I didn't need as Borders already has one - see our events page for details). You do need to translate the American knitting terms and needle sizes into British ones - however this is a minor issue as the differences are all explained in the first few chapters. To sun up I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to start knitting or improve on their knitting if they're a little rusty. I consider it to be my knitting 'bible' - there's not a pattern I have followed yet I haven't found need to consult my 'Stich 'n' Bitch' - so my copy is pretty well thumbed!

For the novice knitter, this book is the starting point to a practical hobby. Stoller includes a background to the art of knitting and tools of the trade, in addition to mulitple types of stitch patterns. Once you have progressed through the basics, there are many projects to try that range in difficulty [so you won't become easily bored once you've learnt the stitches!]. This style is also good for the more experienced knitter who wants inspiriation for different types of knitted products; the ideas range from scarves to cat beds. Stoller has also written a number of equally exceptional titles within the series to extend your knitting knowledge further... in addition to encouraging hundreds of stitch 'n bitch groups around the country. A great book for all ages and creative minds.
