  Dark fantasy that challenges and inspires

  This is a dark fantasy novel that challenges and inspires in equal measures. The story plays with the conventions of a classic children's fantasy adventure, but gradually turns everything on its head and moves into more adult, complicated territory. The main chracters all undertake a long, difficult journey and are tested every step of the way. This is a book that has a strong emotional core and ultimately becomes a spiritual quest. I have to say that it's not quite like anything else I've ever read, so if you want to try something rather different from the standard fantasy work generally on offer, this could be just the thing. Fast moving, intriguing and thought-provoking with imagination to spare! I was very impressed and will look out with some anticipation for this author's next book.
