Bookseller review
The story of a wayward minister's sinister encounters with the devil against the backdrop of small town Scotland. A must read for fans of something a little bit different.

This is a very interesting and controversial book. It is part fiction, part fact and there is no clear line between the two.
Gideon Mack was a very real Presbyterian Minister, who fell into a Gorge whilst trying to rescue a friends’ dog. It was naturally assumed that he had died, washed away by the underground river, but he was found three days later with minor injuries.
He recovered quickly, but his behaviour brought much attention from those around him. He claimed that he had survived the fall as he was rescued by the Devil himself, whom he had several conversations with over the period of his disappearance. He recounted this tale publicly, then went on to preside over a funeral of a close friend in a manner that was against the beliefs of the church, for which he was suspended.
Shortly after his suspension he disappeared, and this ‘testament’ written by Gideon was found, which is where the divide between fact and fiction begins.
It recounts the story of Gideon’s life, growing up as the son of a Minister and then following in the footsteps of his father, despite his lack of belief in God. He struggled with his own beliefs for his entire life and never really felt that he ‘fitted in’.
The book examines the belief system, religion and the ups and downs of personal relationships. It is extremely well written and absolutely compelling. Whilst not everything in the book may be true, it really doesn’t matter as the story itself is very colourful and enjoyable.
If you want a book that is interesting, thought-provoking and emotional, then this is it all in one little package… Buy it now and you will not be disappointed!

This one had me gripped from the start, and the ending didn't disappoint. The other reviews quote that it is a little bit different, and it surely is. A priest starts to doubt his own faith - surely contraversial. Imagine a darker version of Father Ted and you're almost there. Very interesting.
