The Time Traveler's Wife

This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare and Henry who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or future. His disappearances are spontaneous and his experiences are alternately harrowing and amusing. The Time Traveler's Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare's passionate love for each other with grace and humour. Their struggle to lead normal lives in the face of a force they can neither prevent nor control is intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

A Fantastic Romance Across The Ages (of Man)

Audrey Niffenegger's heroinne is married to a man who has literally become 'unstitched in time'. Although her love remains true, she can't hold onto him for long as he shifts and re-emerges in her life, at different ages and in different states. Using the metaphor of time-travel this excellent book confronts the changes that we must make in order to keep loving someone as they themselves change.

A book to get lost in

'The Time Travellers Wife' is an exceptionally well written novel that revolves around the characters of Henry and his wife Claire. Henry is affected by a seemingly unique genetic disorder that unpredictably rips him out of his natural time line. Whilst on one of these journeys he meets a childhood Claire, and strikes up a rare friendship that evolves into a romantic union when the two are reunited, each as adults.

This book is rare in that it manages to break away from genre constraints by featuring themes typical from science fiction and romance without being typical to either in any concrete way. The tragic fore shadowing that exists throughout is engaging and drags the reader into a state of mind in which they want the characters lives to play out happily.

This book is a fantastic read, flamboyant and daring without seeming over the top. It's heart breaking whilst at the same time being uplifting, completely fantastical yet entirely convincing. Basically it's a book that goes against the grain whilst easily allowing you to drift away with it. Amazing!

The Time traveler's wife (6 of 20 competition)

One of my favourite books. A brilliant story about a man who travels through time, and the many complications and practicalities this encompasses. Imagine meeting the love of your life for the first time, only to find out she has known you since she was six years old. Time travel can be very inconvenient, not knowing when you will be traveling, then arriving at your destination, naked with no money and nowhere to stay. Not as much fun as it first sounds.

    Orginal

This book should be so complicated to read. Its plot is seems incredible. But it wasn't. The author makes it an easy read. I was disappointed with the ending that's all I can say (can't reveal much more else it'll spoil it from those who've not read it).
