If I'm being honest, as much as I like Becky Bloomwood (the heroine of Sophie Kinsella's fabulous shopaholic series), there was something about Samantha Sweeting that I connected with as soon as I started reading The Undomestic Goddess - and now I readily admit this is my favourite Kinsella book of all. Samantha is an obsessive, workaholic, control freak who finds herself on the run from her old life when one tiny mistake costs her company £17 million. Somehow she ends up in a small village, working as a housekeeper for some rather amusing employers, although the slight hiccup is she has no idea how to even turn on the iron. Or the hoover. Or the washing machine come to that. In typical Kinsella style, Samantha somehow manages to overcome all of this and falls in love with her new life away from the rat race - as well as the gorgeous gardener. But you have to wonder how long it can last...
Brilliant and absolutely hilarious.
