Gillespie brands Doherty an 'attention-seeker'

Primal Scream front-man Bobby Gillespie has said that Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty is just an attention-seeker.

Gillespie, who is a reformed drug user himself, is close friends with Doherty's ex-girlfriend, supermodel Kate Moss, who starred in the music video to the Primal Scream hit Kowalski and also sang on their version of Some Velvet Morning.

Speaking to Loaded magazine, Gillespie said that he thought Doherty enjoyed playing out his dramatic lifestyle in public and would be lost without the attention of the media.

He said: "I think Pete has learned to manipulate the mass media very well - especially the tabloid newspapers. That's how he does his press, I suppose. I think Pete likes the attention."

Gillespie added that he is still very proud of his 2003 musical collaboration with Moss.

He explained: "It was really great fun. Kate's a great girl and I'm really proud of the record we made together. It was a great disco record, a great pop record and has a great video."
