Witherspoon reveals Oscar speech reluctance

2008-11-28

Reese Witherspoon has revealed that she was so nervous on the night she won the Best Actress Oscar that she was hoping the announcer would not call out her name.

The 32-year-old won the prestigious acting award for her role as singer-songwriter June Carter Cash in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.

The role also won her a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

She recently told WENN: "The whole time I was sitting there, hoping they wouldn't call my name, just because the idea of having to give a speech in front of everyone in the world is terrifying.

"It basically sums up who you are and you know it's going to be the clip that people show for the rest of your life. I don't remember much about that night, I was in such a daze."

Witherspoon can currently be seen starring opposite Vince Vaughan in the festive romantic comedy, Four Christmases.
