Considers how and why people live in harsh environments. The author looks at the geographical and meteorological conditions. Anti, a quiet English boy living in Quito, Ecuador, strikes up a friendship with flamboyant classmate Fabian, who is everything Anti isn't: handsome, athletic and popular. What's more, he lives with his rakish Uncle Suarez, while Anti is stuck in the dull ex-pat world inhabited by his parents.

One of my all time favourites - fabulous imagery, great characters, beautiful story. all set against a backdrop of the lush but volatile Ecuador. It is by no means a travelogue but pure, imaginative, beautifully crafted Fiction.

A brutal piece of thrilling Fiction writing set against a backdrop of the communist Russia that hooks you in from the start. It is one of those rare books where you feel little empathy towards the main character but can't help wanting to see how his tale works out. I read it in two sittings and although the ending of the book is possibly a little too neat (hey this is Fiction after all), Child 44 ...

Ok, I loved The End of Mr Y and Going Out. Both books were thoroughly immersive and great reads. Popco is no exception and shows once again that Scarlett Thomas is truly one of the greatest talents in British Fiction writing and actually there is no better publisher for her to be with than Canongate - a company I regard as one of the best publishers of modern Fiction. Popco is about codes, being ...

In 1979, a secret unit was established by the US Army. Defying all known military practices and the laws of physics, they believed that a soldier could adopt a cloak of invisibility, pass cleanly through walls, and kill goats just by staring at them. They were the First Earth Battalion.

Ok, so I want to see this movie anyway but thought I would do the honourable thing and read the book first. I was definitely not disappointed. This investigative account of the black-ops use of Psychic Spies by the US Government over the last 40-odd years is informative, entertaining, laugh-out-loud funny and will show you a side to Uri Gellar that you never knew existed. To some people, granted, ...

LOVING FLASH FORWARD on C5!!!!! Just read the book and have an idea what caused the Flash Forwards. Don't know if the team are going to stick to the script and use the same reason as the book but watch out for Lloyd Simcoe if they do!
