Divine Madness: (Cherub S.)
Robert Muchamore

Robert Muchamore's Cherub series is just about the coolest, current read out there for kids. Fast, witty, explosive, I can't wait for The General.

Percy is a half-blood - the son of a Greek God. He spends his time fighting with swords, battling monsters with friends and generally trying to stay alive. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief: (Percy Jackson)
Rick Riordan

He has dyslexia, ADHD, a stepfather who sucks and he keeps failing at school. While on a school field trip as one teacher turns into a Fury and Percy finds himself battling her armed with a pen that turned into a sword you begin to wonder if the poor guy's head might explode. Turns out he's a half god. Another cool, slick, intelligent series for kids.

Stoneheart
Charlie Fletcher

Charlie has to be one of the lovliest people I have met in a long time. His trilogy is partly penned in our coffee shop and is a must read for everyone, not just kids. Beautifully written, the words are like lyrics. A great adventure where the statues of London come to life, there's chases and battles and riddles galore. You'll never look at statues the same way again. Ironhand is the second and Silvertongue is the third, out this September. Charlie is currently writing a screenplay for Stoneheart and as he is no stranger to TV and film work, his adaptation should be fantastic. If you ever get the chance to hear this man speak, take it!

Gone
Michael Grant

I got a proof copy of this last year and it's frustrating that the UK has had to wait until April 2009 to get their hands on this. I'll keep it short - Gone is AMAZING. I started reading on a flight to Toronto and I did not stop until the plane landed 8 hours later. Heroes versus Lord of the Flies does not do this book justice. Way better than both. If you read only one book in 2009 make it this one.

The Page Turners - An Introduction. 0

I like to think that The Page Turners is a somewhat unique book club for kids and young people. Hosted by yours truly at Borders, Kinnaird in Edinburgh it runs differently to other book clubs. The original book club format is one where a book is chosen each month to be read by the whole club. The problem with book clubs for younger people is that not everyone is reading at a similar pace, ...
