This guide brings together the complete range of items by the original designers. Started in 1973 this living tradition continues today. Just as popular and entertaining as ever, it is now a subject for the serious collector. A range of over sixty items made, not only in the designers studio but also by three other manufacturers, provides a rich source of new discoveries whose values range from highly priced rarities to relatively inexpensive, popular items. The bulk of the production was made by Carlton Ware, sold world-wide over fifteen years. There is always a chance of finding a bargain. Now, no longer factory-made, it continues only as a limited issue of hand made items guaranteeing a rarity that has seen values rise consistently over the last twenty years. This long-awaited book written by Julia Michell, otherwise, the poet Julia Wheeler, produced with the co-operation of the designers and a prominent expert, is probably 99 percent comprehensive. An illustrated design list, laid out in chronological order, describes each member of the range and is followed by a guide to identification, colour ways, and makers' marks. It tells a fascinating tale of probably the last, truly interesting, eccentric phenomena of the now defunct Staffordshire pottery industry. A phenomena which is very quirky, very amusing...as English as a pint of beer or cricket on the beach.
