This is going to be contentious! C4 counted down the top 100 movies of all time and came up with Shawshank Redemption. True, an excellent movie, but is it the best ever? This is the chance for you to have your say. So come on, let's start the debate! Post your comment with your fave movie and tell us all why you love it.
Absolutely fantastic film, couldn't recommend it more. Worth watching for Nicole Kidman's performance alone, she won the Oscar for The Hours [another great film] but I'd say her performance in this is better, it's a lot more 'raw' [that isn't meant to sound as pretentious as it probably does!]. Plus it has John Hurt narrating, in my opinion always a good thing. :]
bridget fonda...makes the old grey matter work, simply one of the best..
I'm only 11 but some of my favourite movies wold be Grease, Titanic or Music and lyrics! Then their is all of the childish movies like hsm! But I can't wait for HSM 3 in October. And camp Rock! AND...cheetah girls 3 one world in August! Borders ROCKS!
You can't mess with genius. Hitchcock's original is an undisputed classic. Why anyone would want to remake any of his films is beyond me.
I haven't seen The Red Violin for a good 10 years, but it has remained in my memory as a truly beauitufl film. With such a unique idea for a movie - the violin maker in the late 1600's works his blood, sweat and tears in the creation of his masterpiece (literally) - the story proceeds to follow the life and soul of the violin, and who's life it has touched through to the late 1990's.
From memory the ending lets the film down ever so slightly, but it went on to win several Golden Globe, Genie and Oscar awards, which highlights the beauty and passion of the film overall.
Love this movie - cinematography, soundtrack, characters, everything! I remember watching it for the first time and being blown away by it. Stick a load of kids on an island, last one left alive is the winner - this is a sublime reworking of Lord of the Flies for a more modern audience.
For me this film has everything - fantastic screenplay and characterisation, provocative subplot and an endearing soundtrack. Above all though, the tone brought across by the French Cinema influence is what makes this film stand out even more.
This just hits the spot, a feel good movie without being too cliche. I'm sure everyone experiences that Ground Hog day feeling at some point and would like to turn back the clock and do something different.
It makes me laugh everytime works wonders when I need cheering up.
I don't usually like this type of romantic movie, but this one is something different. Well worth watching.
Choose just one, way too hard! I have a film for every mood but my favourite film when i need a big dose of cheering up is Clerks 2. It has much more warmth than the original and it has no shame! (pillowpants...)
