Greatest travel read of all time?

In a recent poll we conducted on the Greatest American Literature of all time, Jack Kerouac's On the Road, ranked very highly but he is not for everyone. Maybe it is reading The Beach that gets you in the mood for a trip, maybe Paul Theroux or Earnest Hemingway or maybe something totally different? Anyway share your favourite travel reads with other community members here!

Shantaram

I absolutely love Shantaram and think although there are some rather harrowing bits throughout, it really portrays a sense of India and adventure.

Are You Experienced? Well, are you?

Ok, so I know that this is fiction, but only this and The Beach really capture the spirit of modern backpacking. In particular, the characterization of the grotesque public school 'raa's' on a quest to 'find themselves' through yoga and meditation (on daddies money) is brilliant and extremely funny. Not so sure about Sutcliffe's more recent efforts - this will be a tricky one to top.

For something a little more heavyweight, try Jupiter's Travels, Sparring with Charlie, Seven Years in Tibet and Into the Wild.
